The newly regenerated Doctor crash-lands his damaged TARDIS in Leadworth, a small village near Gloucester. He meets young Amelia Pond, who feeds him and shows him a scary crack in her bedroom wall. The Atraxi send a psychic message to the Doctor that "Prisoner Zero has escaped". The Doctor searches the house, and notices an extra door out of the corner of his eye that was not there before. He tells Amelia that she must leave the house as it is where Prisoner Zero is hiding, before he is forced to tend to the battered TARDIS. Before he leaves, he promises Amelia he will be back in five minutes after a short trip in the TARDIS. Amelia, now intrigued by the Doctor, decides that she will travel with him when he returns and packs a suitcase while she waits, unaware that the door to the new room has opened. The Doctor returns some time later, leaving the TARDIS to continue repairs and goes to find Amelia and Prisoner Zero, but is knocked out by a blow from a cricket bat. When he comes to, he finds himself handcuffed to a radiator by a much older and bitter Amelia—now calling herself Amy—upset at the Doctor abandoning her 12 years before and leaving her psychologically traumatized. The Doctor and Amy escape the house and into the village. The Atraxi arrive in Earth's orbit, alerted by the Doctor's arrival, and warns across all forms of communications that if they cannot find Zero in twenty minutes, they will destroy the Earth. The Doctor and Amy encounter her friend Rory, a nurse at the local hospital who has been seeing his coma patients on the village green; the Doctor realises that Prisoner Zero has psychically linked to the coma patients and is using their forms to hide from the Atraxi. Seeing the disguised Prisoner Zero nearby, the Doctor attempts to alert the Atraxi with his sonic screwdriver, but the damaged unit explodes before the ships converge, and Prisoner Zero retreats back to the hospital. As Amy and Rory help to evacuate the hospital, the Doctor use the laptop of Jeff, another of Amy's friends, to gatecrash a meeting of scientific experts; borrowing Rory's phone, he instructs Jeff and the experts what to do and then commandeers a fire truck to race to the hospital. The Doctor arrives at the hospital to save Amy and Rory from Prisoner Zero. The Doctor reveals his plan, the unleashing of a computer virus that broadcasts the number "zero" across all forms of media with help of the experts, all linked back to Rory's phone; as the phone also contains the images of the coma victims taken by Rory, the Atraxi will be able to identify Prisoner Zero. Prisoner Zero reveals it has one more linked form, that of young Amelia still holding the Doctor's hand; as Prisoner Zero takes on that form, Amy falls into a deep sleep. The Doctor, realising that Prisoner Zero is using Amy's dreams to conjure the image, forces Amy's subconscious to dream of his natural form. Prisoner Zero is unable to prevent revealing itself. After the Atraxi leave, the Doctor finds the TARDIS key is hot, indicating it has finished repairs, and runs off to take it for a ride before Amy can catch up to him. The Doctor arrives back at Amy's house, only to have a furious Amy tell him another two years have passed since their last meeting; the Doctor apologises for it and after letting her inside the TARDIS, offers her to join him on adventures across space and time. Amy is willing but tells the Doctor he must return her to the morning after her departure when they have finished their travels. When he asks her why, she is vague about her answer. There really wasn't much to this episode. There was a lot of running around, but there was very little substance to this story. As I said earlier, I believe this is because it's main purpose was to introduce the new Doctor and the new companion, played by Karen Gillan.
